Smart Floorplan: AI floorplan with labels

Draw a region and Smart Floorplan drafts the walls, rooms, doors and windows inside it, names each room from the sheet and splits doors and windows by their marks. Redraw over earlier results to re-read the labels only.

Smart Floorplan finds the same walls, rooms, doors and windows as AI floorplan, then reads the text printed on the sheet beside each one. Rooms take the name the drawing gives them, and doors and windows are grouped by their schedule mark, so 3 of window A and 1 of window B come out as separate lines you can price.

AI floorplan or Smart Floorplan?

AI floorplan Smart Floorplan
Walls, rooms, doors and windows Yes Yes
Rooms named from the sheet No, listed as Rooms Yes, for example Master Bedroom
Doors and windows split by mark No, one Doors and one Windows object Yes, for example Doors 101, Windows A
Re-read labels without detecting again No Yes, with Associate only

Smart Floorplan also reads the sheet's text, so a run takes a little longer. Use it when the plan has room names and door and window tags; on a plan without them, AI floorplan gives you the same shapes.

Before you run

  • Open the page you want. Smart Floorplan runs on one page at a time.
  • Let the page finish processing. Otherwise you see This page is still being processed. Wait for page processing to finish, then try AI detection again.
  • Set or confirm the scale, so the results come out in real feet or metres. See AI navigation.

Run Smart Floorplan

  1. Click AI takeoff. Under Take off, click Smart Floorplan (tooltip Detects walls, doors, windows and rooms with labels).
  2. A banner reads Smart floorplan · Drag a rectangle, or click points for a polygon. Drag a rectangle around the plan, or click points around an odd shape and close it by clicking the first point, double-clicking or pressing Enter. Backspace (⌫ on a Mac) removes the last point; Esc cancels. Keep the room names and the door and window tags inside the region, and leave out schedules, notes and the title block.
  3. The banner at the bottom reads Starting detection..., then Smart Floorplan running with a percentage. Click Pause to hold it and Resume to continue. Cancel ends the run early; anything already saved stays.
  4. When it finishes the banner reads Smart Floorplan complete · 23 components. Click Done.

What you get

The results land in the Takeoff tab, filed by CSI division, the same way as AI floorplan:

  • Doors and windows under 08: Openings, as counts, one object per mark: Doors 101, Doors 102, Windows A. Where a plan has no window tags, the size callout is the mark, as in Windows 6046 SLIDING EGRESS. An opening whose tag couldn't be read stays in a plain Doors or Windows object.
  • Rooms under 09: Finishes, as areas. Each room is named from the sheet, such as Kitchen or Master Bedroom.
  • Walls under 06: Wood, Plastics, and Composites, as Internal Wall Perimeter and External Wall Perimeter lengths, plus Internal Wall Centerlines and External Wall Centerlines.

From here it's an ordinary takeoff: rename, recolour, move to another division and price. See Organize your takeoff.

Draw over objects that are already there

If the region you draw already holds AI floorplan objects, from either tool, Smart Floorplan asks what to do with them before it starts. An object counts as inside when its centre is inside the region.

  • This region already has 37 objects offers two choices:
    • Associate only re-reads the marks and room names of the doors, windows and rooms already there, without detecting them again. Use it to add names to an AI floorplan run, or to retry the labels with a better region.
    • Replace all objects deletes the doors, windows, rooms and wall lines in the region and detects them again.
  • Replace 896 objects in this region? appears when the region holds only wall lines. Walls have no labels to re-read, so the only choice is Replace all objects.

Hand-drawn shapes are always kept. Close the dialog with ×, Esc or a click outside it to cancel the run. Over empty space there is no question: the run simply adds what it finds.

If something goes wrong

  • Rooms come back as plain Rooms, or doors and windows aren't split. The labels weren't inside the region, or the text is too small or faint to read. Redraw a region that includes them and choose Associate only.
  • A room has a name from the next room. The label sits on a wall or between two rooms. Rename the section in Properties.
  • Another AI assist is already running on this project. Wait for it to finish or stop it first. One run per project at a time.
  • The AI takeoff button is greyed out with Wait for your AI task to finish. You already have as many AI tasks running as your account allows. It comes back as soon as one finishes.
  • AI detection failed. Check your network connection and try again. If the problem continues, the ML service may be down. Retry once, then contact support with the project name and page number.
  • Nothing was found. Check the region covered the plan itself, not just notes, and that the sheet isn't a faint scan.
