AI floorplan: walls, rooms, doors and windows

AI floorplan looks at a region of a plan and drafts the walls, rooms, doors and windows it finds there as takeoff objects. Smart Floorplan does the same and names each room from the label printed on the sheet.

Before you run

• Open the page you want. Detection runs on one page at a time.
• Let the page finish processing. Otherwise you see This page is still being processed. Wait for page processing to finish, then try AI detection again.
• Set or confirm the scale, so the results come out in real feet or metres. See AI navigation.

Run a detection

1. Click AI takeoff. Under Take off, click AI floorplan (tooltip Detects walls, doors, windows and rooms) or Smart Floorplan (tooltip Detects walls, doors, windows and rooms with labels).
2. A banner reads AI floorplan · Drag a rectangle, or click points for a polygon (Smart floorplan · … for Smart Floorplan). Draw around the plan and leave out schedules, notes and the title block. A tighter region means fewer false hits.
3. The banner at the bottom reads Starting detection..., then AI floorplan running (or Smart Floorplan running) with a percentage. Click Pause to hold it and Resume to continue. Cancel ends the run early; you may briefly see Stopping, finishing in flight... while the current step completes. Results already saved stay.
4. When it finishes the banner reads AI floorplan complete · 14 components (or Smart Floorplan complete). Click Done.

What you get

The results land in the Takeoff tab, filed by CSI division:

• Doors and windows under 08: Openings, as counts (Windows · 4 EA), named by label, for example Door #1.
• Rooms under 09: Finishes, as areas. With Smart Floorplan a room takes the name on the sheet, such as Bedroom.
• Walls under 06: Wood, Plastics, and Composites, as Internal Wall Perimeter and External Wall Perimeter lengths, plus Internal Wall Centerlines and External Wall Centerlines.

From here it's an ordinary takeoff: rename, recolour, move to another division and price. See Organize your takeoff.

Review the results

Every AI shape is a draft until you've looked at it.

1. Tick Confidence badges in the toolbar's Advanced menu. Each AI shape gets a badge such as AI-detected · 87% · door, coloured by tier: 80% and above, 50 to 79%, below 50%.
2. Start with the low badges. Click a shape to drag its points, or right-click for Subtract, New Section, Properties and Delete. See Edit takeoffs: reshape, add/remove points.
3. Compare door and window counts against the schedule (Find text jumps to it), spot-check a wall with Measure, and make sure interior walls didn't get counted as room area.

Run it again

Over a part of the plan with no AI floorplan objects, a run simply adds what it finds. If the region you draw already holds AI floorplan objects from either tool, you're asked first. An object counts as inside when its centre is inside the region.

• AI floorplan asks Replace 37 objects in this region? Replace all objects deletes the doors, windows, rooms and wall lines there and detects them again.
• Smart Floorplan asks This region already has 37 objects and also offers Associate only, which re-reads the marks and room names of the doors, windows and rooms already there without detecting them again.

Hand-drawn shapes are always kept. Close the dialog with ×, Esc or a click outside it to cancel the run. Running a different tool, such as AI navigation, never touches floorplan results.

If something goes wrong

• Another AI assist is already running on this project. Wait for it to finish or stop it first. One run per project at a time.
• OCR (text + layout) failed but Floorplan completed. You can retry just this model. Use the retry on that row of the banner.
• AI detection failed. Check your network connection and try again. If the problem continues, the ML service may be down. Retry once, then contact support with the project name and page number.
• Nothing was found. Check the region covered the plan itself, not just notes, and that the sheet isn't a faint scan.
