Template inputs and formulas

Read what an applied template took from your measurement and what it calculated, change an input or a price on one object, and know what a manual change does and doesn't survive.

Every number an applied template produces traces back to three things: what you measured, what you typed into the inputs, and the template's formulas. This article shows where to read each one and how to change a value for a single object without touching the template. To change the template itself, see Create your own templates.

Open the applied properties

  1. In the Takeoff tab, expand the object to show its applied assembly and parts.
  2. Right-click a part and choose Properties.

A dialog opens, titled Properties: followed by the part's name.

What each section tells you

Takeoff data

What the template reads from your measurement: Area, Linear Total, Segment Count, Point Count and Section Count, or Count for a count group. To change them, edit the shape on the canvas. See Edit takeoffs: reshape, add/remove points.

Definition

What the part is, as written in its template: Type, Formula (Qty) and Display Unit. These are read-only here. The Edit template button takes you to the Templates panel so you can change the template itself.

Pricing

The part's own numbers: Cost Each, Waste %, Markup % and Tax %. Click a value to type a new one. This changes the price for this object only.

Input data

The answers you gave in the apply picker, like wall height or stud spacing. Change a value and press Enter. Plankore recalculates every line in the assembly that depends on it.

Formula - quantity and formula - estimating

How the template turned the takeoff data and your inputs into a quantity, then into a price. Each row is a formula with its result. Empty sections are left out, so a simple part shows only a few rows.

Change a value for one object

Use Pricing and Input Data in the dialog. Every edit belongs to that one part on that one object. Other objects with the same template keep their own values, and the template in your library doesn't change.

Where else you can see these numbers

  • Estimates lists each part as a line under its object, with quantity, waste, unit cost, markup and total. On a part that came from a template, Waste % is read-only. Hover it and Plankore explains: Set on the Assembly or Part this row came from. See Build an estimate.
  • Some rows show a quantity marked inherited, meaning it comes from the parent object's measurement. Click the quantity to type your own. It's then marked overridden, and a reset button, Reset to inherited quantity, takes you back.

What survives what

  • You change an input. Formula results update. A price you typed into Pricing stays.
  • You reshape or re-measure the object. Takeoff data updates and every formula that uses it recalculates. Inputs and prices you typed stay.
  • You edit the template in the library. Nothing changes on objects already applied. They keep the version they were applied with. Apply the template again to get the new definition.
  • You remove the applied assembly. Everything it produced goes with it, including any prices and inputs you typed for it.

Sales tax

Sales Tax 1 and Sales Tax 2 are set once for the project on the Project Details tab, and every template that references them reads the same values. They don't appear as rows in this dialog. See Project Details and Settings and Add prices, waste, markup and sales tax.

If something goes wrong

  • "Failed to update applied resource". The change didn't save. Check your connection and try again.
  • A field won't take your value. Inputs are typed. A number field ignores text, and a tick box only takes yes or no.
  • The dialog is read-only. Viewers can open it but not edit. Ask the project owner for Can edit access. See Share a project and manage members.
